The Good and Bad from WIFW SS'14: Masaba Gupta

A lot has already been said, so let me come straight to the point. The clothes are beautiful ( well some of them exceptionally are) and color palette is summery (pinks and blues), yet a perfect balance of designer and her label's personality , that's where the splash of gold and black comes in. The only flaw that I see here(look at the pictures below) is, the fit of the show stopper dress could be much better ( finally, I also said it). Yes, the dress is perfect and suits the young and ever so effervescent, Alia Bhat's personality and  Masaba's  design sensibility( what she is really known for). BUT....
Alia Bhatt(left) and Masaba Gupta(right) , WIFW SS'14

My Take on the Look:
Now let me exaggerate(  hehe..) My degree in Fashion gives me leverage to be a little critical ( obviously in a constructive way). I think that length of the dress is too long for Alia, it should have been till her calf, with the kind of footwear she is wearing, it's clearly looking odd. Aesthetics of the whole look goes for a toss if these things aren't given attention, specially for a show as grand as this one.
Fitting too seems to be an issue here( refer to the pic where Alia turns on the ramp), I cannot ignore bulge on the back. Also, Backstage crew could have used a bit of steam ironing on hemline of the dress. All of that together is clearly making this a MAJOR Fashion Faux Pa.

Trend Alert:

Our favorite Gen Next Star designer is clearly obsessed with Dots, black and white stripes( make a note of that, Monochrome is still a Hot Trend ), Summary hues of Pinks and blues, Interesting Avant Garde bags are a few Spring Summer'14 Trends you can pick from Masaba Gupta's latest Spring Summer'14 Collection, showcased at the WIFW SS'14.

'PURE LOVE' on the Ramp by Sumit and Amit

Last Friday , Delhi  witnessed Heavenly Magic on the Runway at India Fashion Summit , where two of my Favourite   Designers Amit Talwar and Sumit Sawhney came together to Celebrate  '
Runway of divine love' : Inspired by Prema, the supreme love of the Gopis for Lord Krishna, Jewelry designer Sumit Sawhney presented his Sawariya collection, at the IFFD Finale Fashion Show on August 31st, Friday at The Grand, Vasant Kunj. Especially designed to complement designer Amit Talwar’s clothes celebrating the theme where Gopis are alluring their beloved Lord, Sumit Sawhney unfolds the era through his jewelry.

Stunning Barkha Kaul ( DJ from Delhi) , was the show stopper for designer Amit Talwar and Sumit Sawhney and sizzled in the beautiful Sawariya necklace ornamented with real kundan crafted by Designer Sumit Sawhney.

DJ Barkha , The Show Stopper for Amit and Sumit

Immensely applauded for his Sawariya collection, Sumit Sawhney gave IFFD’s Fashion Summit a pious end. Overwhelmed by the response, he commented on the occasion, “The colors that I have used in the collection depict pure love and unrelenting beauty. The idea was to reinvent the sanctity of that era and reflect it through the delicate jewelry without losing its essence. I loved designing this collection and I am glad that the jewelry was appreciated and liked by the audience.”
The designer fused hand painted miniatures over gemstones that are framed with real kundan. Handcrafted in silver with precious and semiprecious gemstones with 22kt Gold layering, Sumit Sawhney passionately recreated the era of deep attraction and pure love with this collection. The innovative jewelry designer used festive colors like, red, the color of passion and love, lapis blue and turquoise, color of Krishna. Stone carvings of the idol in red coral framed and ornamented around gemstones had a dramatic charm to them and created a majestic aura. The collection also included a few pieces portraying Kanha or Bal Krishna in oxidized frames.

I have always been a fan of Sumit's jewellery and now in LOVE with Amits Bridal Lehangas aswell...View the last Post I did on Sumit Here

I will be back soon with the Post about my Show that happened later at the same event..
