Style Edition: Fashion Trends That Need to Die in 2015

First, the disclaimer: Not every trend that you see on this list is inherently "bad." I like some of them, I really do. Unfortunately, everyone- from street-style stars around the world to the actresses and the fashionista sitting next to me in the salon- has been wearing them. I'd like to see something else in 2015, something fresh that we all are going to over-do to death and bury as we move forward to the next fashion year. But before that happens, let's remember all the trends that we trespassed in 2014 and mourn in silence for a minute, because they made as Fashionable to the T.

It's time to bid adieu to the following fashion trends, till they plan to reappear in the future sometime..

  1. Culottes: I am not a pirate, PERIOD. Okay! No kidding. These high fashion gaucho pants were seen almost everywhere. The really made it to the 'IT Trend of 2014', but sadly for me  they were too popular for liking. It's striking and recognizable silhouette, and the fact they were seen everywhere are enough reasons for it to rest during the next fashion year.
  2. Poufy Midi Skirt: These reminded us of the 50's and the ballet dancers. I personally find them very costume(y), and tricky to style. But we can still do midis sans the tulle, gathered seams and unflattering box pleats around the waist.
  3. Ear Jewellery: After midi-rings fad slipped on faster than one could say "Midi", this year, the most popular accessory was the ear cuff. From aggressive metal ones to the explosion of candy-crush-saga when they were the jewelled kind, ear cuffs seem to be sliding on everyone's ear lobe. The second earlobe is itching of attention and it's time we give studs a try. I sincerely miss the days when statement necklaces were the coolest thing ever.. let's layer em up!
  4. The Expensive Sneakers : Gone are the days when sneakers were just meant for walking or running. With Sports luxe becoming a major trend, sneakers seemed to be everywhere in 2014. I totally get why people shell out for gold hardware Python CĂ©line slip-ons, but I don't get the point behind buying Adidas, Nike and Vans with marginally better materials, and an astronomically more expensive price tag. Why?

  5. The Normcore : The sudden attraction towards a pair of distressed acid wash denim, Birkenstock or the lose white T-shirt during the last year was understandable. We all needed a break and street-style came to our rescue. But wearing all the normcore staples together looks more lazy and less fashion.
  6. The Kardashian/JennerSignature look: Let's give them a break and not break the internet doing what they do! The body hugging Nudes and lip injections are done to death. At this point, it kind of feels like watching the same episode of the reality series starring the family.
  7. Side Cutouts: Below the waist, above the waist, under-bust or below the back zips, we saw clothing labels have put them in all the fishy places. let's just say, 'been there, done that.'
  8. Temporary Metallic Tattoos: I am already tired of these cool tattoos. They somehow reached everywhere so fast. What about jewellery that you can actually wear and take off without using a scrub brush or baby oil.

Trend Alert : Sari with a Sheer Coverup Blosue

Do it just right.. Learn from these Bollywood Fashionistas

I am really impressed by Bollywood actress and Fashion's new darling, Kajol's recent appearence in a Masaba Fan print sari with a sheer coverup. While lot of people criticized the look, I on the other hand have a different opinion. We all go wrong sometimes, even she did with that bag. But apart from that, I love the idea of the sheer coverup blouse. It's a breath of fresh air from the backless, tube, bikini blouses, which have been used and abused in the name of modernizing the traditional 9 yards. It's just the right amount of style and class done right with no skin show.

I felt Deja vu, as this look reminded me of Kareena Kapoor's filmfare 2011 sari by Manish Malhotra in nude color. The swarovski and pearl embellished sari had a sheer full sleeves blouse which instatntly cought my attention and has been one of my Kareena's favourite appearance ever since. So.. I thought of sharing with you ladies how you can style a similar look just right.

Here is how you can do a Sheer Coverup in 2 different way--

Let's learn from Kajol first:  Best For Voluptuous Indian Full Figured Women

This style is Perfect for full figured Indian women with curves. For those of you who don't know, she is wearing a tunic, that goes till knees, as a blouse. But its not necessary for you to do the same. You can customize a blouse that covers up till your waist or lengths a little below your belly button, as this will define your waist and will make you appear much slimmer than you actually are.

You can chose the lining below the sheer coverup, which covers-up the area from waist to bust, from a solid color or color same as of sheer blouse's, according to your figure or your personal preference. But Keep in Mind that a darker lining under the blouse would help hide the tummy flab.

You can add a bit of detailing on the neckline or finish it with a cuff detailing ( like she did in the pic above)

Let's see what we can Learn from Kareena's look : Best for Slender and Lean Body Type.

This is style is perfect if you are slender, tall or have a well defined waist or flat tummy. This would look best with nude or earthy tone saris. You need not keep the blouse length long, unlike Kajol's ( in the pic above). Lining could be of any color, but you should ideally keep it same ( to flaunt that perfect figure ), giving just the right covering till the bust with long sleeves and a neckline of your choice. You can also define the neck and sleeve cuffs by adding details of your choice.

Or if you have any other idea, apart from this then do drop it in the comment section below. I'll love to share it on the blog's Fb and Twitter.

HORIZONTAL Stripes:Trend Alert ,Breaking Myths and OOTD

Horizontal stripes is one of the hottest trend this spring summer. Today on the blog we have celebrity stylist  Cristina Ehrlichis, Hollywood's go-to expert for putting together solid outfits and is the name behind some of the Hollywood's most stylish. In a recent interview with an international fashion magazine she talked about year's biggest trend, 'Horizontal Stripes' : Don't be afraid of horizontal stripes ."I really want to help women understand that stripes do work on all body types."

My take:
There's a sort of myth and fear that horizontal stripes are going to make you look bigger, and it's really not true.  Instead, a horizontal on top or bottom just needs a perfect pairing. One rule I totally swear by when sporting such trends is, Understand your body-type and dress accordingly. If you have print on top, wear solid on bottom and if you want to wear a printed bottom wear solid on top.

That's how I styled my Outfit a few weeks ago for a day out with girls.

I am wearing :

Skirt: FCUK'11
Loafers: Catwalk'12
Sling Clutch: Zara'12
